Is there a difference between closing costs and closing fees?

Written By: admin on November 26, 2009 One Comment

The seller agreed to credit me ,500 for closing costs but in the estimated HUD the title co. is only crediting me ,500 because they said it only covers closing costs, not settlement or closing fees because the contract states closing fee, not closing costs. Does this sound right?

They are absolutely incorrect. Closing costs can refer to any cost you incur as a part of closing a loan, which would be origination fees, discount fees, prepaid interest, settlement fees, escrow set up, and more. They are just playing word games. Stick to your guns on this and don’t sign until you get your full credit.
