Rented a house to a HUD section 8 tenant who has trashed my rental house. Do I have any recourse?

Rented to a HUD section 8 tenant and now they have trashed the house. The house was in tip top shape and now it will cost hundreds of dollars to get it ready to rent again. I have a 0 deposit that I will keep but it’s going to cost hundreds more. Would it do any excellent to take them to civil court for the rest of the repairs? Is HUD responsible for any of the repairs? If anyone has had any dealings like this please answer. Thanks
